In the heart of Ibanda, Uganda, a transformative project nears completion—a
60-bed medical center led by Dr. Herldleen Russell’s ministries. This initiative
stands as a beacon of hope for a community of over 20,000 people, many of
whom have never had access to affordable, quality healthcare. The medical
center promises to meet urgent health needs, save lives, and offer specialized
care for women, children, and families. Over the past year, the medical center
has achieved significant milestones.
Thanks to the dedication of supporters and the resilience of the construction
team, all 52 outer windows have been installed, bringing natural light and
security to the hospital. Three sturdy outer doors now safeguard the facility,
and a completed retaining wall ensures the building’s stability, especially
during Uganda’s rainy seasons. These achievements mark a major step
forward, drawing the vision of a fully operational hospital closer than ever.
While remarkable progress has been made, important work remains.
To open the doors of the medical center and serve the community, additional funds are
needed for critical areas, including:
$7,311 - Plumbing: Installation of modern systems to ensure clean water
and sanitation
$7,548 - Electrical: Wiring and fixtures to power essential medical
equipment and lighting $17,016 - Internal Finishings: Wall treatments, ceilings, and paint to create a
safe, welcoming environment
$7,187 - Floors: Durable surfaces to withstand heavy use and facilitate
cleaning
$8,666 - Internal Doors: Privacy and security for each hospital ward
$8,932 - External Finishings: Masonry, painting and final touches to protect
the building and enhance its appearance
In addition to these needs, a deep water well is planned to provide purified
water—vital for patient care, infection control, and daily operations. The
generosity of donors has brought the project this far, and with continued
support, the finish line is within reach.
The completed medical center will house 60 beds and a variety of specialized
wards, each designed to address the specific health needs of the Ibanda
community: Lady Candace Pierce Women’s Center; Children’s, Surgical, Labor
and Delivery, Dental and Pediatric Ward.
These facilities will provide a safe haven for mothers in labor, children in need,
and patients requiring surgery or dental care—services that have been out of
reach for so many.
For the 20,000 residents of Ibanda, access to affordable medical care has long
been a dream deferred. With the completion of this hospital, families will no
longer have to travel great distances or not receive treatment due to cost. The
center will offer compassionate, high-quality care right in their own
community, improving health outcomes and saving lives for generations to
come.
